SCFLP Siyyum & Shavuot Program

Sunday, June 1, 2025 5 Sivan 5785

5:00 PM - 9:00 PM

In addition to being the date of our SCFLP Siyyum (closing ceremony), June 1 is also Erev Shavuot. Shavuot is the holiday when we celebrate the gift of a lifetime—the Torah! Jewish traditions around Shavuot include staying up late to study Torah and eating lots of dairy. As we did last year, we will hold a Tikkun Leyl Shavuot with yummy dairy snacks and "dig into" our community learning.

Rav Naomi is looking to include lots of different folks to offer brief teachings (half an hour or shorter) for the Tikkun. If you have something you'd like to teach, please get in touch to pitch your idea. It should be connected somehow to Judaism but the connection can be loose! Some sample ideas to spark your creativity:
  • Why we Talk About Ten Commandments when there are 613
  • Great Jewish Books for Children
  • Gender Dynamics in the Book of Ruth
  • Israeli and American Jewish Poetry
  • Traditional and Nontraditional Shabbat Melodies
  • Jewish Attitudes toward Pets
  • My Favorite Mishnah from Pirkei Avot
  • Comparing the Two Iterations of the 10 Commandments (or of the two Creation Stories)
  • What's the Most Important Verse in the Torah and Why?
  • The Torah of Taylor Swift
Be creative!  If you have something you'd like to teach, get in touch.
