Our tradition teaches that Jews may not own, eat, or benefit from chametz (leavened food) during Passover. Where disposing of chametz would result in considerable financial loss, it is permissible to symbolically sell one's chametz to someone who is not Jewish, who “owns” the chametz during Pesach and relinquishes it after the holiday ends. (Please do not physically bring your chametz to the synagogue; the purchase is symbolic only.)
If you wish to sell your chametz this year, please fill out this online form or download and print it and bring it to TAA. The deadline to sell chametz through TAA is noon on Thursday, April 10.
Our Office Manager Suzanne Ewer will purchase our chametz for the duration of the holiday and return it after Pesach ends. If you wish to donate un-opened food items, she will be happy to arrange for a donation to The Open Pantry in Gloucester.
