צְדָקָה וּגְמִילוּת חֲסָדִים שׁוֹקֶלֶת כְּנֶגֶד כָּל־מִצְוֹתֶיהָ שֶׁל תּוֹרָה

Charity and deeds of loving kindness

are equal in weight to all the commandments.

-Jerusalem Talmud, Peah 1:1

We start with our building and our community, and reach out from there.

We designed our new building to take advantage of green initiatives. In our office, our kitchen, and our classrooms, we make environmental stewardship an integral part of our programs and practices. We only use compostable tableware for our kiddushes, onegs, and community meals. Our congregants participate in various local programs that serve the needs of our communities.

If you are interested in learning more about any of the following programs, please contact the TAA Office.

Social Action

ECCO (Essex County Community Organization)  Temple Ahavat Achim is long-standing member of ECCO, a faith-based grassroots organization that fights for racial and social justice. Fifty-nine congregations across the North Shore collaborate a world where everyone belongs. ECCO brings people together across lines of difference to  change policies to address root causes of injustice in our midst.

Open Door Food Pantry  For decades, our school and our community have been active supporters of this important local food pantry and meal program. We cook and serve nutritious meals, and donate groceries, and funds.

Chesed — Our Caring Community

The Chesed Commitee's mission is to support our members during difficult times. We offer help with:

  • Rides to TAA services and events
  • Rides to medical appointments
  • Hospital or home visits
  • Meals for those recovering from illness and their caregivers
  • Grocery shopping
  • Shiva Minyans

The support of our community for congregants who are hospitalized and ill at home makes a tremendous impact on those in need. If you need assistance or know someone who does, please do not hesistate to call or email the TAA Office.

Reverse Tashlich

Unlike the traditional Tashlich, in which we symbolically cast our sins into the water, Reverse Tashlich reflects our commitment to tikkun olam by removing trash and debris from the environment.  Each year, our SCFLP students and parents are joined by other congregants to participate in this environmental mitzvah, cleaning up Gloucester's Pavilion Beach.
