Our tradition teaches that Jews may not own, eat, or benefit from chametz (leavened food) during Passover. Where disposing of chametz would result in considerable financial loss, it is permissible to symbolically sell one's chametz to someone who is not Jewish, who “owns” the chametz during Pesach and relinquishes it after the holiday ends. Please do not physically bring your chametz to the synagogue! The purchase is symbolic only.

If you wish to sell your chametz this year, please fill out this online form below or download and print it and bring it to TAA. The deadline to sell chametz through TAA is noon on Thursday, April 10.

If you choose to make an optional donation to the Rabbi Discretionary Fund in the form below, Rav Naomi will collect those funds to donate to the Open Door Food Pantry. In addition, please consider donating any unopened containers of chametz to Open Door to provide for our neighbors in need.

Our Office Manager Suzanne Ewer will purchase our chametz for the duration of the holiday and return it after Pesach ends. If you wish to donate unopened food items, she will be happy to arrange for a donation to The Open Door in Gloucester.

---------------

The undersigned appoint(s) Rav Naomi Gurt Lind to serve as my/our agent in the selling of chametz in our possession.

I/We understand that I/we must segregate and mark the areas where the chametz is found. This chametz will then not be in my/our possession from the period starting 12 PM Saturday, April 12, 2025 and ending at 8:30 PM, Sunday, April 20, 2025.

I/We will not be permitted access to or utility from this chametz during the aforementioned period, and the buyers will have rights of access to the chametz during this period.

---------------

Deadline:  Please sign this document, append your address and location of the aforementioned chametz, and return it to the TAA office (or click "submit") no later than noon on Thursday, April 10, 2025. Please do not physically bring your chametz to the synagogue. This is a symbolic sale only.
